Outline of Training:

  1. Introduction to Urban development, growth, and sprawl.
  2. Introduction to geospatial technologies.
  3. Modern applications of geospatial technologies in the urban studies.
  4. Hands-on Evaluating and Simulating Urban Development Process using GIS Techniques, Models, and Tools:

4.1. Interface of ArcGIS, IDRISI, and FRAGSTATS Software’s

4.2. Session for downloading all used software’s.

4.3. Exporting and importing spatial data between ARCGIS and IDIRISI

4.4. Preparing spatial data using ARCGIS.

4.5. Using LCM model for evaluating historical and current urban process.

4.6. Using landscape analysis for identifying urban form.

4.7. Using CA-Markov model for predicting future urban trends.

4.8. Using Google Earth for accuracy assessment purpose.

4.9. Using Analytical Hierarchy Process for determining the suitable location of urban development.

4.10. Using Frequency Ratio for determining the suitable location of urban development.

Objective of Workshop:

This workshop aims to improve the participant’s skills to use important GIS software’s, algorithms, models, methods, and approaches in urban studies.

Software’s used:

ArcGIS – IDRISI – Fragstats, and etc.

Materials used:

Satellite images, land use maps, topographic maps, soil maps, Digital Elevation Model, and so on.

Who should attend this workshop?

Geography, Agriculture, Science, Engineering, and Hydrology areas should be included.

Language of Workshop:

Arabic and English.
